What are the main belief systems?
A belief system is a world-wide system that defines a way of beholding the social, physical, psychological and cultural way of life. Some of the main belief systems are the following:
- Christianity: "It is harder to conceal ignorance than to acquire knowledge"
Christianity is a religion based on the life and teaching of Jesus of Nazareth as shown in the New Testament. It is currently the religion that has the largest amount of followers reaching up to 2.5 billion people.
It's followers are tagged world wide by the name of Christians and they believe that Jesus is the son of God (creator of the universe) and the messiah in-charge of fomenting the old testament.
- Islam: “I believe in the religion of Islam. I believe in Allah and peace”
Abrahamic religion originating with the teachings of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. The word "Islam" means submission or the total surrender of oneself to a God. Islam is the second biggest belief system in the world with approximately 1.6 billion followers.
Islam is made up of several religious practices. Followers are usually required to observe the Pillars of Islam, which are five duties that unite Muslims into a community by giving them certain roles that they must follow throughout their life.
- Buddhism: "In Buddhism we have relative truth and absolute truth"
Buddhism is a variety of teachings. Its objective is to identify the causes of human suffering and to offer a solution to this suffering. It is said by some followers to be a body of philosophies influenced by the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama commonly known as Gautama Buddha.
Buddhism is also known as Buddha Dharma or Dhamma, which represent "teachings of the Awakened One" therefore it is said by other followers to be a religion based on a set of teachings focused on the guidance of reality.
- Judaism: "If i had to baptize a Jew, i would take him to bridge of the Elbe, hand a stone around his neck and push him over with the words 'I baptize thee in the name of Abraham'"
Judaism is the religion of Jews, based on the principles and ethics expressed in the Hebrew Bible. According to the Jewish tradition, the history of this religion begins with the contract between Abraham (the patriarch and progenitor of the Jewish people) and God.
Judaism is one of the oldest religious traditions that is still in practice today, this religion differs from many other religions back since the modern times. The authority of this religion is not represented by any person or group of people, but in sacred texts, traditions.
